Web server upgrade FAQ

We are excited to let you know that if you have a website hosted with us, you will be benefiting from our Web Server Upgrade. This is currently development and will be going live over the summer break. The upgrade will improve the security of our hosting and provide new features.

This will mean two things:

What is the new address?

http://home.kindergarten.vic.gov.au<name> will be replaced with https://<name>.kindergarten.vic.gov.au

But our site is at our own domain name?

Then the name change will be even simpler; http:// <your.domain.name> will be replaced with https:// <your.domain.name>

How will visitors find the new address?

They won't notice, we will implement a redirect from the old to the new one.

How long will the upgrade take?

Upgrade will be completed by the end of January 2017.

What is a Web Server upgrade?

In this instance our Systems Administrator has built a brand new server from the ground up to replace the current one. The servers are hosted by the Kindergarten IT Program on site at State Library Victoria.

LightNEasy Websties

Our current website is built with LightNEasy.

We can replace your LightNEasy site with WordPress and copy across your content.

I don’t want to change from LightNEasy.

Unfortunately, it is unavoidable. The upgrade is in the interests of all our sites as older platforms like LightNEasy develop vulnerabilities over time. The move to WordPress will be conducted efficiently by our Support Team and our Helpdesk is available to talk you through any changes.

What will the new site look like?

We will attempt to reproduce the basic structure and general look of the site. WordPress offers a lot different ‘themes’ available once you are familiar with it.

I don't know how to use WP.

We will be delivering WordPress training in the new year. We also have support resources on our website: https://www.kindergarten.vic.gov.au/CommunityKindergartenWebPublishing.html If you need some assistance in the short term, just ask.

What if I need to update the site for the new year?

If you need to prepare the site for the new year, you can discuss simple content changes with us such as adding a PDF or updating a page.

We want to move our LightNEasy site to a new provider

Whilst this might be possible it is not recommended because LNE is now end of life and unsupported which makes it vulnerable and an insecure platform.
