A wireless network is a great way to be anywhere in the radius of your Kindergarten and enjoy the convenience of your internet service. But it’s important to be aware when your wireless network is open to unauthorized use. A compromised wireless network can allow public access to your confidential information, your Internet connection and even degrade your connection speeds.
Things to consider…
WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access II)
WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access II) is a security certification program that uses strong encryption to scramble your data so no one else can read it through the secure wireless computer networks. This is the latest wireless encryption standard that provides the best encryption.
Change the default SSID name
SSID (Service Set Identifier) refers to the name of your wireless connection that you see on the “Available Wireless Connections” list from your PC while connecting. Changing the default wireless name can discourage a hacker, as they know that you’ve taken some steps to secure your wireless connection.
Password Security and Confidentiality
The most important thing you can do is keep your new modem details and password in a safe place and only give it out to people authorised to access the Wi-Fi connection. There may be personal information and confidential data on your computer not meant for prying eyes. You can also request to change your password regularly or during staff changes.
Enable MAC filtering
Allow wireless access only to your trusted computers & Wi-Fi enabled devices, by allowing wireless connection only to unique known MAC address of a device.
